# Meridian OS — PRD

## Vision
A browser-based desktop environment for a video game. Elegant, restrained,
gamer-literate without being loud. No emoji stuffing, no AI-slop aesthetics.

## Personas
- Player who boots the in-game computer and wants to feel at home.
- Easter-egg hunter who wants rewards for exploration.

## Core Requirements
1. Login screen (any username, stored locally, avatar = initials).
2. Desktop with changeable wallpaper (gallery of 6 curated gradients/images).
3. Taskbar: start-equivalent launcher, active apps, widgets tray, status bar.
4. Status bar: username, time (live), connection state, date.
5. Widgets: date, active applications. Optional: achievements tray.
6. Window manager: drag, focus, minimize, close. Multi-window.
7. Apps:
   - Notepad (text editing, localStorage persistence)
   - Music player (3 tracks, play/pause/skip/seek, volume)
   - Terminal (command parser, easter eggs, ANSI-ish styling)
   - Spoof: Steam, VS Code, Postman, Chrome (static-but-believable UIs)
8. Special feature: Achievement system (game-flavored, tracks real usage).

## Non-Requirements
- Real authentication
- Real networking
- Real OS features (files beyond localStorage)

## Aesthetic Direction
- Palette: slate/graphite base (#0f1114, #1a1d21, #252a31), amber accent (#d4a24c).
- Type: Inter (400/500/600).
- Borders: 1px rgba(255,255,255,0.06–0.1).
- Shadows: subtle only; never blurry-neon.
- Motion: 150–220ms ease-out; no bounce, no parallax.
- No emojis in chrome. Allowed sparingly in content (terminal output, toasts).

- "First Grace" — log in for the first time (ER)
- "Getting Tactical" — run 5 terminal commands (CoD)
- "Career Mode" — open 3 different apps (FIFA)
- "Tarnished Typist" — type 500 chars in notepad
- "DJ" — play music for 30s straight
- "Speedrun" — open and close a window in under 2s
- "Dataminer" — find all 3 hidden terminal commands

## Success Criteria
- Loads in <2s on localhost.
- No console errors on a cold boot.
- Every app opens, stays usable, closes cleanly.
- At least 5 achievements unlockable through ordinary play.
- Zero emoji-stuffed UI elements. Zero gradient soup.
